Scorched Ice

July ’22 Heat Contest Winner

by Cyra

It's cold

I'm sweltering
new passions trigger a reckoning
come nearer to hear something
contrary’s happening here

Those flames don't scald they bite
endorphins put up a fight
receptors flex with such might
as my body struggles, a desperate plight

Thoughts, magma freezing over
refusing closure
shivers shoot down my spine
sweat streaks in a line

This body of land is divided;
blistering ice caps & molten snow
peaks threaten to overflow,
ravines bleed affections so bittersweet

An insatiable lust, unquenched
for this frigid heat
